Highway 9

Well earned Beer.
September long weekend yippee! 3 days off work, just fantastic. Okay you get my drift. I was happy that I wasn't working (although my workmates say I don't do much when I am at work!).  So we planned a lovely camping weekend, that included all the kids as well.  We packed the brand new tent, still in original packing for the past 2 years and 4 kids.  It was similar to moving the tribe of Israel. The journey we were about to embark on was only an hour and a half long but the kids felt it important to have all elements of technology along for the trip.  Gone are the days of "Eye Spy with My Little Eye or look at that cow with one eye!!" So after everything was checked off.....Ipods, toilet rolls, socks & shoes, we finally set off on our wonderful weekend of joyful camping.  Myself and my son in the VW Westfalia and my wife and other kids in her vehicle. To the highway we went. We hit Hwy 9 which would take us directly to our destination.  A lovely camping area known as Camp Neustead which is just past Gimli on Lake Winnipeg. With the VW taking it's time on the highway, a line of vehicles followed behind.  Always makes the journey that much nicer when you happen to see fellow VW owners drivng past and giving the proper V salute!  An hour and a half later combined with a numb bum, we safely arrive at the camp.  People already at the camp must have thought the circus had just pulled in.  We unpacked the vehicles and out came the brand new tent along with enough for two weeks, even though we're just there for an overnight.  Now the fun part...the erecting of the tent.  The supports, wires, pegs....all over the place.  Tent upside down, inside out.....this is going to take awhile.  Two hours later, we had an erection....of the tent!  Camping really does relax you and get you out of the city and the everyday mundane.  The campsite we were at was a very nice place, many a family, nice folks, some who've had spots there for years.  Some of the trailer sites are very unique.  As the day drew to a close, we sat around the fire with family and friends, gorgeous food, fantastic company.  As it is, all good things must come to an end and the huge task of re-packing the tent, loading up the vehicles, with all and kids.  We definitely plan to get the tent out sooner than later since this trip.  On the way back, we decided to drive into a nice little town called Winnipeg Beach.  We walked the Boardwalk, even with a bit of wind blowing up your shorts, which can prove a little uncomfortable at times. But I manned up and perservered.  The kids were easy to please....with $2 each, they set off for Playland Amusements.  All in all, a nice weekend, simple but fun.  Who needs a barrell full of cash to have a good time.
